a good place to buy music and posters in Ireland?

I am looking particularly for Mcfly memorabilia in either Dublin and Galway Ireland. I am not quite certain how popular they are there..but hey. Are there any really good music stores in either of those locations that I can visit when I go there next week?

McFly are pretty popular here, but merch wise, I think all you’ll find is posters. I’ve never seen t-shirts or badges or anything else. You’d have to get that stuff online or at concerts.

Tower Records (O’Connell Street [above Easons] and Wicklow Street)
HMV (Grafton Street and Henry Street)
Zavvi (Henry Street – and there might be one on Grafton Sreet, I’m not 100% sure)
Forbidden Planet (Crampton Quay – it’s a comic/movie merch shop but it has a good selection of posters.)

There’s also a little shop down the street from Forbidden Planet that sells posters but I forget the name of it. I think there’s a bunch of random shops in Temple Bar that sell posters as well but it’s been a while since I’ve been there.

Galway:

Zhivago (Shop Street)

Forever $29.98 Forever is an absolutely stunning double DVD on the British blues-pop band that reinvented the Rolling Stones’ number one hit from 1969, “Honky Tonk Women,” for their Top Five ticket to fame, “All Right Now,” coming a year after the Stones classic. That half of this group, singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke, would form Bad Company and crank out hit after hit, chart action beginning in 1974, makes this compelling collection all the more valuable. There’s so much great material on the two discs that one can spend hours exploring the restored archival footage, the new interviews, and perhaps the frosting on the cake — multiple camera images from the Isle of Wight festival performance. You can literally remix your own version of “All Right Now” with all the footage made available from the cameras that captured the legendary festival. Five original videos from the band’s early days along with material from Beat-Club in Germany and Granada TV from 1970 will keep the viewer happily busy. There are four different versions of “All Right Now” alone and commentary from Rodgers, Kirke, Andy Fraser, New York Daily News critic Jim Farber, and Simon Kossoff, brother of the late Paul Kossoff. The interviews were recorded in May and June of 2006 and fit nicely with the seven pages David Clayton writes about the group on the nine-page flip side of the deluxe poster that comes with this double disc. For historians, the package is the quintessential prototype of a musical presentation that is so deep and complex it would be pretty difficult to download from the Web, the collection of sound and pictures lovingly put together to satisfy the devoted. In the Land of Grey and Pink $13.98 In the Land of Grey and Pink is considered by many to be a pinnacle release from Caravan. The album contains an undeniable and decidedly European sense of humor and charm. In addition, this would mark the end of the band’s premiere lineup. Co-founder David Sinclair would leave Caravan to form Matching Mole with Soft Machine drummer and vocalist Robert Wyatt in August of 1971. As a group effort, In the Land of Grey and Pink displays all the ethereal brilliance Caravan created on their previous pair of 12″ outings. Their blending of jazz and folk instrumentation and improvisational styles hints at Traffic and Family, as displayed on “Winter Wine,” as well as the organ and sax driven instrumental introduction to “Nine Feet Underground.” These contrast the decidedly aggressive sounds concurrent with albums from King Crimson or Soft Machine. In fact, beginning with the album’s title, there seems to be pastoral qualities and motifs throughout. Another reason enthusiasts rank this album among their favorites is the group dynamic which has rarely sounded more singular or cohesive. David Sinclair’s lyrics are of particular note, especially the middle-earth imagery used on “Winter Wine” or the enduring whimsy of “Golf Girl.” The remastered version of this album includes previously unissued demos/alternate versions of both tracks under the titles: “It’s Likely to Have a Name Next Week” and “Group Girl,” respectively. The remastered disc also includes “I Don’t Know Its Name (Alias the Word)” and “Aristocracy,” two pieces that were completed, but shelved in deference to the time limitations imposed during the days of wine and vinyl. The latter composition would be reworked and released on Caravan’s next album, Waterloo Lily. Live $40.99 Despite the fact that the band’s best days were obviously behind them, a live album for AC/DC was all but completely necessary. After all, the group’s first live release, If You Want Blood You’ve Got It, was recorded at a time when AC/DC was nothing more than a cult act that had yet to produce many of its future rock staples. Though recorded well into their career on the Razor’s Edge 1991 tour, AC/DC Live surprisingly captures the hype and excitement that made AC/DC such a hit in their heyday. The set list wisely overlooks the songs from the band’s mid-’80s slump and concentrates on hard rock hits such as “Hells Bells,” “Back in Black,” “Highway to Hell,” and “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.” Brian Johnson’s voice may not be as strong as in the early ’80s, but he still sounds competent in his role. All too often, a live album is a cheaply made, rushed recording that only serves as a testament to a band’s decline. AC/DC Live, however, shows what makes this band different from their peers — here they are still entirely capable of pulling off a great live show. This ranks among the best live metal albums of the ’90s. [In February 2003, the American distribution rights to AC/DC's back catalog transferred over to Epic, their new label. Epic reissued the band's catalog as remastered digipacks containing lavish, expanded booklets with plenty of rare photographs, memorabilia, and notes. Live at Leeds [Deluxe Edition] $69.98 This two-disc set should be the final word regarding the Who’s February 14, 1970, performance at Leeds University. The main impetus for consumers — who may have repurchased this title in its various formats — is having the entire Tommy rock opera intact. While impressive, that performance merely scratches the surface of the multifaceted sonic and visual improvements that exist on the Live at Leeds (Deluxe Edition). The 1995 single-disc restoration of Live at Leeds more than doubled the original six-track album, which consists of all the non-Tommy material performed that evening. This deluxe edition features the Who’s entire performance — albeit in a somewhat truncated form. To accommodate a seamless inclusion of Tommy onto the second disc, “Shakin’ All Over,” “My Generation,” and “Magic Bus” have been taken from their chronologically correct place at the end of the entire show and relocated to the end of the first (read: non-Tommy disc). Even though drastic improvements augmented the 1995 release, time considerations meant that some ambience and stage dialogue between the band and the audience was still missing. With the expansion to a two-CD format, much of the previously edited material has been reinstated to reflect the actual pacing of the show more accurately. This new mix — supervised by Pete Townshend (guitar/vocal) — is an all-encompassing stereoscape which has never felt more intimidating. Although no mention is made in the information- and memorabilia-laden 28-page liner-notes booklet, vocalist Roger Daltrey performed several vocal overdubs during Tommy which are unique to this release. Although not impossible to locate, they blend surprisingly well with a recording that is fairly old. [25th Anniversary Deluxe Box Set] $165.99 Arguably Megadeth’s strongest effort and a classic of early thrash, Peace Sells combines a punkish political awareness with a dark, threatening, typically heavy metal worldview, preoccupied with evil, the occult, and the like.
